December Concert

December Concert
By Liza McQueen
Hey fifth graders! Do you have on your best singing voice? You better come December 6th! If you go to Ogden or you are an Ogden parent, be sure you make your way to the multi-purpose room! The fifth graders will be putting on a concert! From Hebrew to Spanish, you will be sure to enjoy this concert!
All fifth graders will be singing but some have special roles. There will be dancers, actors, instrument players, and bell players. The dancers will do their thing in the Spanish song (La Fiesta), the actors will act throughout the program, the instrument players will play in the Spanish song as well, the bell players will be playing Carol of the Bells in the beginning and We wish you a Merry Christmas in the middle, and in our Hebrew song, we have a student playing the violin. The theme of the program is December traditions from around the world and there will be 5 songs featuring December traditions.
We hope you have a great time at our program! “Our fifth graders have worked very hard and can’t wait to share their musical talents! We will have so much fun!” Says Ogden’s music teacher, Mrs. Stemke. We all believe this much is true!

Challenge Math Week 1

Challenge Math Weekly
Week 1
By: Kaitlyn S.
Hi guys!  Welcome to Challenge Math Weekly!  Every week, I post a new challenging math problem!  All of my math problems have a different math skill.  It’s okay if you get stumped, because every week I post a new problem, along with last week’s answer key.  Feel free to print if you can’t do it in your head.  Good Luck!

This Week’s Skill:  Logical Reasoning

Story:
Five chipmunks named Annabeth, Bob, Cailey, Denver, and Joe lived in an area with a tree at each point.  They each lived at a different point; 1; 2; 3; 4; and 5.  They each also eat the same amount of acorns each week
(60 acorns), but at different times.  2, 4, 6, 12, 36 on Monday; 2, 4, 6, 12, 36 on Tuesday; 2, 4, 6, 12, 36 on Wednesday; 2, 4, 6, 12, 36 on Thursday; and 2, 4, 6, 12, 36 on Friday.

Clues:
  • Bob likes to have more acorns on Friday than on Monday for a weekly ‘desert’
  • Annabeth lives 3 points more than Bob
  • On Monday, Cailey ate 2 times more than she did on Tuesday
  • Bob lives 1 point more than Joe
  • Denver is greedy and likes feasting as much as he can on Monday
  • Bob’s point tree x 2 = Denver’s point tree
  • Joe saves the most for hump day!
  • Denver’s point tree x 3 = Cailey’s acorns on Monday
  • On Friday, Cailey x 2 = Denver, Denver x 3 = Annabeth, and Annabeth 2 = Joe
  • Denver’s Thursday x 2 = Denver’s Wednesday

  Annabeth             Bob              Cailey            Denver               Joe
