BOB Meeting
By Liza M.
Have you ever wondered about what BOB means? Maybe you know what it means but you don’t know how to try out? Yesterday Ogden held a meeting for anyone who thought they might attend the meeting for the tests and hope to make the team. One of our news reporters, Liza M., was there to cover the meeting.
Wednesday’s speaker was Mr. Bell, one of Ogden’s favorite volunteers. He is the volunteer and coach for the BOB team. He was speaking to about 40 kids! He was there to talk about competition and how to make the team, and, Liza was on the team last year so she knows first hand what it’s like at competition! Mr.Bell was first talking about competition and said that it was stressful at times but we are a team and we are all in it together. We also talked about the teams and how the rooms at the library (public) are set up for three teams at a time. At competition, there are a bunch of rooms and 24 teams! Every team is guaranteed three rounds. There are 6-10 people on each team and only six people can compete at a time from each team. There are three teams competing at a time, and, when they finish that round, they go on to another and then another. Then, if you get one of three of the highest scores of the first three teams that get the highest scores, you move on to the finals in the big meeting room and every team plus all the parents can come and watch! It is a really cool thing and an amazing experience!
Another thing they talked about at the meeting was how to make the team. In order to do that, you have to have pretty much have all of the books read. On February 7th, you will head to the meeting room. There are two tests you take- the author quiz and the 50 question quiz. The author quiz is where you match the books on the list to the correct author of the book. The fifty question quiz is 50 questions, obviously, is fifty IWB questions. IWB stands for In Which Book. The questions are detailed questions about the books and you have to write the answer that is the correct book next to the question. It is one of the hardest tests you will ever take! Last year when Liza was on the team, one time they got 30 questions correct in a row, they got cookie cake! They also got pizza! When everyone who tried out for the team meets after the tests, they recognize everyone who tried out with a medal. They got ice cream, too! Liza had lots fun on the team last year, and, encourages you to try out for the team, or, just read the books!

Have fun reading!
